Giesecke and Devrient (G & D) announced the world's first Nano-SIM. The world's smallest SIM Card has size two-thirds the size of the micro-SIM. As reported by ITwire, Saturday (11/12/2011), G & D claims that the nano-SIM will make the manufacturers are able to create products that are thinner with better performance. This could be a shortcut to the new technology in 2012.To minimize the SIM card to 0.105 mm in size is a very hard technical challenge, and even harder to predict as thin as what sophisticated equipment that will be produced. The thickness is about 85 percent of the thickness of standard SIM card, that is 0.7 mm. While the dimension have a size of 12 mm x 9 mm.
The Nano-SIM is expected to obtain the standardization of the ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute) at the end of this year.
